The Frances Hurley Education Center offers hands-on recycling education. Our volunteers offer classroom visits and facility tours. We are very flexible and try our best to accommodate all education requests.

Classroom presentations are primarily for elementary aged children. We have programs for K-2nd, 3-5th, and older children by request. Classroom visits include discussion, video, and student participation. The presentations average an hour long. In a school setting we are able to present to more than one class each day.

Facility tours are available to all general public groups. School aged children begin with a discussion about waste reduction and a video. Teens and adults jump right into the tour of the center. We discuss each recyclable and its potential. When available we give a demonstration of how our baler works. At the end of the tour we discuss other ways that you can reduce waste. The tour itself lasts approximately 30

minutes. We always suggest that you bring items from home to be sorted afterward. Check our list of accepted recyclables and always wash items out. Sorting items gives each of us ownership of the center. It is a community based drop-off center. When you start saving items to recycle you will immediately realize the impact of your actions. It will take much longer to fill your dumpster!

We are always in need of dependable volunteers. If you have interest in giving presentations or tours please contact the Education Director. To make an education based request please e-mail:

Beth McDonald, Education Director at education .

Our normal hours of operation are Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-4 and Saturdays 9-3. We are willing to give tours at other times per request. Our volunteers work around your schedules for on sight presentations. If you have other needs that have not been addressed here please feel free to contact us.

We are currently working on building a program for badge merits with the Boys and Girl Scouts.

Last school year we provided recycling education to 1,681 children. We hope to increase our outreach this year! Let us enrich your life and give you a chance to make a difference.
